An Extension of Peace
With the bridge of Jesus structured and secured, peace will now have a new path to traverse. Berkeley is known for its admirable movements of social peace, but Christ Church of Berkeley seeks to reclaim a more significant and far-reaching meaning of peace. Christian philosopher Neil Plantinga describes peace (in Hebrew, Shalom) as “the webbing together of God, humans, and all creation in equity, fulfillment and delight.”
People are fragmenting. Societies are disintegrating. However, God’s bridge of mercy — Jesus himself — empowers Christ Church of Berkeley to extend a peace that mitigates personal and social disintegration. God is using Christ Church of Berkeley to take the unraveled threads of our lives and the frayed edges of our community and re-weave them into a beautiful tapestry of equity, fulfillment, and delight.
